Black Lacquer Export Canton Export Games Table - Early 19th Century

Black Lacquer Export Canton Export Games Table - Early 19th Century

This antique gilt black lacquer Chinoiserie games table dates to the early 19th century. The top is reversible to reveal a chess board and can be removed to reveal a backgammon board. It was made for the Chinese export market and was intended for wealthy members of the British Georgian upper class during the Qing dynasty.

This intricate and detailed work was made for export to Britain when Chinoiserie was all the rage in the early 19th century. Black lacquer export sewing kits and jewelry boxes were also made.

These pieces are fragile pieces of history and are usually found damaged. This games table has been checked over in our workshop and our team has used traditional techniques to restore the table to its former glory. Small restorations have been made to stop the aging process.
