Blue & White Porcelain Baluster Jar - Story of Guiguzi

Blue & White Porcelain Baluster Jar - Story of Guiguzi

This exquisitely decorated reproduction Chinese blue & white baluster jar is a beautifully hand painted reinterpretation of a Yuan dynasty jar which sold at Christie's in 2005.

The jar tells the story of Wang Yi, also known as Guiguzi - The Master of the Ghost Valley. He can be seen here riding a chariot drawn by a tiger and leopard. This was also the subject used in Ai Weiwei's "Ghost Gu Coming Down the Mountain" work. The Yuan dynasty was a period of Mongolian rule (1269 - 1368).

Made in the Yuan dynasty style, it is painted in a cobalt glaze and could be used as a flower vase. Floral paintings circle the top of the vase and a small mouse sits on the lid. The original Yuan dynasty vase sold for £15.5 million at Christie's auction in 2005.

This vase is hand made on the potters wheel in the traditional way, it is then decorated by hand before firing.
