3 Door Painted Sideboard From Mongolia - 19th Century

3 Door Painted Sideboard From Mongolia - 19th Century

This antique Mongolian sideboard was traditionally used by the nomadic peoples of Mongolia and Northern Shanxi for storing clothing and grain in the 19th century. The doors feature intricate artwork of scholarly objects, symbolizing wisdom, and are set against a rich rust orange background. The deep red frame adds to the piece's visual appeal. Inside, the cabinet is divided into three sections, each with its own shelf for organization.

These sideboards were also used as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship. The front doors have been modified from the original closed front to make it more functional. It would have originally opened from the top by a hatch.
