Carved Elm Coffer Sideboard From Shanxi Province - 19th Century
This pretty antique coffer sideboard from Shanxi province has a beautiful patina and is in excellent condition. Remnants of the original pastel paint pigments can be seen on the front. It has three large drawers at the top and a large interior storage space accessible by removing a drawer.
Coffer tables in China had relatively little written about them. They were likely used for clothes and utensil storage by women & servants.
This particular piece has beautiful carvings with floral motifs often used by northern nomads.
