This late 19th century carved teak votive panel originates from Andhra Pradesh in South India and was traditionally created by tribal communities to decorate the walls of village huts and small domestic shrines. Panels such as these were symbolic objects associated with devotion and protection, often representing a favoured deity or sacred architectural form. Their deeply carved surfaces and weathered patina give them a striking sculptural quality.

Hand-carved from solid teak, this example features a layered shrine-like recess framed by geometric lattice carving and a decorative upper border reminiscent of temple architecture. The dark aged surface has developed a rich patina over many decades, highlighting the depth and texture of the carving. Small losses and wear are consistent with its age and add to the authenticity and character of the piece.
