Blue & White Ginger Jar Table Lamp - Fishes
This elegant blue & white porcelain ginger jar lamp is hand made & hand painted in small family workshops in the historic porcelain city of Jingdezhen. The design of graceful carp swimming amongst lotus leaves, seed pods and aquatic plants is inspired by an important 14th century Yuan dynasty jar, the original which is now in The Museum of Oriental Ceramics in Osaka, Japan.
The koi carp is a longstanding symbol of wealth in China as the Chinese symbol for fish 'yu' can also be translated to 'abundance'. In ancient China, a fish in water symbolised marital harmony, perseverance and success. The lotus represents purity, harmony and renewal. Together, they create a timeless composition that has adorned Chinese porcelain for centuries.
Each porcelain jar has its own unique character as they are individually hand thrown and painted by skilled artisans before being carefully converted into table lamps in our UK workshops using antique brass fittings. Equally at home in a traditional country house or a contemporary interior, it makes a striking bedside, console or living room lamp.
Each lamp is professionally wired in the UK with a 2-metre twisted brown flex, antique brass fittings and a UK 3-pin plug, ready for use.
