Red Lacquer Chinese Sideboard From Dongbei - Ca 1920
This is an original Chinese red lacquered sideboard from Dongbei (Manchuria) and was made in the 1920's. 'Dong' means East - 'Bei' means North - the region of their origin. These were used in a similar way to altar tables and usually, a family ancestor portrait would be hung above. Joss sticks were lit daily & placed on the top, for the well being of the household.
