This 1930's parinda table from Kutch, Gujarat, showcases the regional craftsmanship of the local Rubari tribespeople. The front is chip-carved with geometric patterns and set with small inset mirrors, framed by boldly carved horse head finials - both iconic features of furniture from this region.

Constructed from solid teak wood with a small hatch in the middle, this table would have originally have been used as a water pot stand (parinda) - the table top has been replaced as the original would have almost certainly have had circles for holding water pots. Pieces like this were often used in domestic interiors and reflect the vibrant artistic traditions of Kutch.
