Bleached Rustic Elm Farmers Stool - 19th Century

Bleached Rustic Elm Farmers Stool - 19th Century

This rustic farmer's stool from Shanxi province, China is a beautiful example of provincial craftsmanship. Constructed using a thick, solid slab of prized elm (yumu) it was designed to withstand generations of daily use.

Originally used by farm workers for everyday tasks around the home and fields, the stool has acquired a wonderfully sun-bleached patina that highlights the striking grain of the elm. The deeply worn seat, softened edges and honest surface marks tell the story of a hardworking life, while the sturdy splayed legs and traditional mortise-and-tenon construction ensure it remains as practical today as it was over a century ago.

Its compact proportions make it an exceptionally versatile piece, equally suited as a side table, bedside table, plant stand or additional seating when entertaining. Rich in character and history, it brings warmth and authenticity to both rustic and contemporary interiors.
