Tall Walnut Cabinet From Gansu - Late 19th Century

Tall Walnut Cabinet From Gansu - Late 19th Century

This antique Chinese cabinet is made in the traditional Gansu style and is immediately recognisable with its deer hoof legs. This style of cabinet became popular in Gansu towards the end of the 19th century and the latter part of the Qing Dynasty. They were mostly used for clothing storage and were almost exclusively made from walnut wood with the occasional cabinet made in yumu (northern elm) or Mulberry wood.

With 2 drawers and an internal shelf, this is a very functional piece of storage furniture.
It has old brass hardware and a beautiful rich patina.
