This rustic farmhouse table would make a charming bijou coffee table. Crafted in Henan around 1900, it was originally used for everyday family meals. Its low proportions reflect the traditional style of dining in rural China, where families gathered around simple tables whilst seated on stools or benches.
Made from Chinese northern elm, the table displays the beautiful flowing grain for which this timber is renowned. The top is made from two planks and has acquired a rich patina through decades of daily use, with softly worn edges, and historic surface marks.
